Good Morning Father

August 5, 2012

The alarm begins to ring, and with a jolt, the day is off to a start.  Your routine kicks in, and before you know it, it is time to get ready for bed, ending yet another day.

When I was a teenager, my uncle told me something that has stuck with me.  He said, “When you woke up this morning did you pray?”  I said, “Well, no.  I don’t think so.”  He said, “How do you think your dad would feel if you woke up, got ready, and left the house without ever saying anything to him?  Don’t you think it hurts your Father too?”

That was the beginning of a journey toward understanding what it means to “pray without ceasing,” as it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:17.  It is a conversation, all day.  It is not stopping to say “Dear God” or “amen.”  It is a constant conversation with the only One who never leaves you.

So… “Good morning Father, thanks for hanging out with me again today.”
